Lakehouse Party

Ashley and her friend Emily wanted to have their joint 18th birthday party at Lake Conroe. Emily's family has a house there. The girls invited a bunch of their friends and had a great time. It was a great group of kids.

This is the start of homecoming week. Sunday night thru Friday night we have to stay up and watch the house because of Junior/Senior wars. Not looking forward to it.
Ashley and I also have to finish her mum- her lucky date doesn't have to buy her one since we've already made a really cool one. We have to get together her officer gift to her rank- which we are also making. This will be a busy week.

Catching Up......

I can't believe I haven't updated in 3 months. I think it might be easier if I just list all that has been going on (what I remember anyways). So- here goes!

I have a new job at a dental office in Stafford. I really like it and the people I work with. I'm an office manager- so finally after years of doing the same thing, at least I get a title with it :).

We went on a family vacation in July. We took the kids on a 7 day cruise to Key West, Nassau and Freeport Bahamas. They loved it. We already have the next one planned for next July.

Joey and I celebrated our 20th anniversary this July. The cruise was our gift.

Amy and Emily are back in school at the charter school. Emily got accepted for this year and she seems to be enjoying it. She is in dance class through school and is excited because she has been asking to take dance for a while. Both girls think it's just awful that they have to wear uniforms. I am really liking it!

Ashley started her senior year. She has been very busy and is hardly home. It's like she's already left for college. She is historian on her drill team, in PALS, Senior Men and Women, and Teen Leadership. She is pretty decided on going to Blinn for two years and then she will decide at that point what to do. I have to send off her dorm deposit- now! We originally thought she should stay home and go to Lone Star for the first year or two- but I think it would be better for her and us that she go away and mature a little. Think on her own for a change.

Emily's Bridging 5/23/09

Emily was so excited to bridge from a Daisy Girl Scout to a Brownie. I wasn't sure if she would go up on the stage as she used to be very shy in situations like that. But- she surprised me and went right up there to get her awards and walk across the bridge. She used to duck her face into her arm and stay that way until she was not being looked at anymore. She did do a little of that but she did great.

Pantera's Spring Show '09

Spring show has finally ended and the year is completed. Ashley will be home everyday at 2:30. Haven't seen that in a while. The show was great. The seniors cried. Joey is already planning what he wants to do for the Senior Dad's and Daughters dance next year at Spring show. A whole YEAR away. Can't start planning too early.
Now, Ashley and I have to get busy getting together all of her social officer tryout stuff. We have some stuff ready to go, but she has to do 6 projects and only 2 are completed. I think we have 2 weeks left. Stacy? Kimi? anyone- help!!

Here are a few sping show pics

An Eventful weekend!

This past weekend was packed full of things to do! It started on Thursday with some sad news. One of my cousins on my dad's side, Ashley Schkade, was killed early Thursday morning when her car slammed into a train. She was killed on impact. She was only 26. I'll always remember her as a little girl with the white blond hair and big blue eyes. She will be missed by many! I was unable to attend the funeral on Sunday due to my kids having all these "last minute" projects that had to be ready by Monday.

Friday night, Emily's troop was meeting at It'z. A pizza buffet with games, rides and video stuff. Joey figured out one of the games and managed to snag about 3000 tickets off of it. The girls got to pick all kinds of stuff from the store with the tickets.

Saturday morning, Emily and I had plans for a "girls day"- as Emily called it. She wanted to get her haircut, ears pierced, nails done and buy an outfit. We didn't count on the thunderstorms, tornandos, hail and downpour of rain. I had scheduled haircuts for Emily and I at 9:30 Saturday morning. The rain had already started. I decided I wasn't getting out of getting her haircut, but we didn't have to do mine. So, Emily got a cute little bob- no bangs, though. In the last 8 months we've gone from hair down to her rear end to hair up to her chin. She thinks she is something else! She kept feeling the back and was so proud that she could brush it by herself- no tangles- yeah!!
We then headed to the mall for the ear piercing. She has been begging me for at least 2 months to take her. We went to Claires. She hopped right up in the chair. She picked out little crystal flowers with blue centers. She put on a brave face and closed her eyes. There were two ladies doing it so both ears were done at the same time. She didn't cry at all. She was very brave. She was so excited about it. She tried to convinve her cousin Tristan to have hers done as well- not going to happen.
Next was a trip to Justice (the old Limited 2). Amy and Emily each got to pick out an outfit. The only thing that didn't get accomplished for "girls day" was the nails.- Oh- and I never got my haircut!

Here is a video of the haircut

And one of the earpiercing

All day Saturday, I worked on a notebook for Ashley because it was due Monday and she had to work Saturday- of course. She is trying out for social officer on her drill team and had to put together a notebook of questions and answers and pictures. So here is what we came up with: I didn't attach all the photos here, but this shows you a little-

On Sunday, Amy and I had to work on her research paper about Marco Polo- no- not the pool game. Marco Polo the explorer from the 1200's. It was actually very interesting and I learned some new things. I think Amy could not have cared less. She really didn't care that Marco Polo was one of the greatest explorers of all time. Whatever!

What a weekend. Next weekend is Ashley's Spring show. That will be another all weekend event.

Hamburgers, Hogs and China!

This is the very first year, ever, that I bought premade baskets. As I was going down the candy aisle at Walmart- I looked up and saw all the premade ones. Well, to heck with putting it together, I went the easy route. I think I came out cheaper, actually. Guess what- the kids could care less. They were happy with their huge "packaged for marketing" baskets. They looked good, anyways. We went to Stacy's for the Easter meal. The day started out with tornado warnings and hail and by the time we left for Stacy's house, the sun was shining and no clouds. It was like a different day. So- you would think we would be doing the traditional ham- but.. no, we decided that no one wanted to cook. The concensus was grilled hamburgers for Easter. Stacy didn't let that deter her from setting the dining room table with china and crystal. So we had burgers served on china. The kids did the annual Easter egg hunt. They've gotten smart and have realized that the eggs that have money in them don't make noise when you shake them. So they were going around shaking eggs and putting in there baskets only the ones that didn't make noise. We convinced them to pick up the candy ones too. There were over 200 eggs to find. Ashley was out for the one that had $10 in it (gas money for her). Of course she found it. She was on a mission and didn't care about the candy eggs. Amy found the $5 egg.
As for the hog, Ashley went with her friend, Collin, Saturday to his grandparents ranch in Huntsville. She called and told me that she shot a hog. My first instinct was "what are you doing with a gun?". She said his grandpa was right next to her and helping her. The hog was a trapped wild hog and was doomed to die anyways. So Ashley volunteered to kill the thing. Yes- right between the eyes. I swear, I didn't raise my child to shoot things between the eyes. I don't know where that instinct came from. Really!
She also sent me text pictures of her holding (with bare hands) the bass fish that she caught. Whatever- who's kid is this?

Ashley went to Dallas last weekend for National Competition with Drill team. Her team did 3 routines. They placed first in Lyrical, and 3rd in Kick and Pom.

It's been quite a while since I've posted- but, you know, nothing much changes. Just life! I've started a new job at a different dental office. I've been there about a month and I'm still on "probation". You know- after 10 years in the dental field, I may not know what I'm doing:)
Joey dressed up as Big Foot this past weekend for Chance's birthday party. He really scared the kids.

So- yea- the kids freaked out! He had fun though.

Ashley has been practicing for drill team competition. They go to Dallas at the end of this month. They've been working really hard and have won top awards already at the contests they have already been too.

So- I just finished ANOTHER season of the Bachelor. Joey can't believe that I get so into the show. I know- it NEVER works out, but it's fun to watch. I love reading this blog about the show. Linsey is hysterical! It's almost better than watching the show. The new Bachelorette starts in July with Jillian- a reject from this season. I love her!

So- that's all for now.
